How Good is Pedro Porro? The new Tottenham Hotspur Player

The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Tottenham Hotspur completed the signing of Spanish international Pedro Porro on the final day of the January transfer window. The right-back will join the North London team for the rest of the season on loan and then with the obligation to purchase him for a reported £42 million.

The highly touted player has been the top target for Spurs and they managed to secure him as a player in the final minutes of the window. Spurs have already confirmed that he will wear the No.23 shirt and he will likely feature in their next Premier League fixture. The interest and intrigue that the signing has generated has already seen the demand from fans buying Tottenham tickets for the next games increase.

Who Is Pedro Porro?

Born in Don Benito, Spain, Pedro Porro is currently 23 years old and joined Sporting on loan from Manchester City in 2020, before signing permanently for the club in 2022. Pedro Porro has been capped once by the Spanish National team and will likely feature in their upcoming international matches for the Euro 2024 qualifiers.

Sporting Lisbon

Tottenham’s new defender made 98 appearances for Sporting making a huge impact after joining the Portuguese club. With 11 assists and 3 goals in the Portuguese league in the first half of the season, Antonio Conte will be looking to include him in the attacking plays at the club. Statistically he has been the best defender for assists in the Primeira Liga and Tottenham will be hopeful he can provide the assists that Harry Kane and co need as they play in both the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup.

Transfer Value

Whilst TransferMarkt has his valuation at €25 million, this will likely increase in the next few days. Tottenham will purchase the player for nearly €45 million and experts believe he is already one of the best right footed defenders in Europe. With already Premier League and Champions League experience, Porro was being looked at by a number of top teams.

Daniel Levy

The co-owner of Tottenham Hotspur is well-known for being a shrewd businessman and this deal is additional proof that he has the ability to close good deals. The structure of the transfer means that Tottenham will have the player on loan and only have to pay for him in six months.

The signing of Pedro Porro from Sporting CP is seen by many pundits and experts as a great deal for Spurs and his explosive power, speed and ability to assist means that he will be a fantastic addition to the squad.

Other Spurs News

In other Spurs news, Matt Doherty left for Atletico Madrid after a mutual termination of contracts was completed allowing him to move to the Spanish capital. At present, Tottenham have 7 players out on loan to other clubs around Europe, meaning that they reached the top limit according to FIFA rules. With this the only option was to sell or terminate the contract, they chose the latter.

There has been a lot of speculation recently regarding Antonio Conte’s position at the club and whether he choose to remain at the club. With the activity in the transfer window and support from the board, the former Chelsea and Juventus manager will likely extend his stay. Conte is currently taking a rest from the club having undergone gall-bladder surgery.
