Spurs put up a good show for a lot of the game, but were left entrenched in the bottom three after a defeat to a Derby side which was challenging for a European place.
Spurs had so nearly scored an early goal when Fox flicked on the ball but Les Ferdinand clipped the top of the bar with his shot. Spurs were caught on a counter-attack after 25 minutes. The ball was sent upfield by Derby after a Ginola free kick. Stephen Carr headed across his own goalmouth, but when Clive Wilson tried to head back to Baardsen, the ball fell short and Dean Sturridge took advantage.
Sturridge might have been awarded a penalty after a trip by Wilson, but referee Gary Willard saw no offence here.
Spurs equalised within 16 seconds of the re-start. Klinsmann received a pass from Sinton and instead of shooting, he laid the ball off for Ruel Fox to score. Fox soon had a point blank effort saved by Poom.
Paulo Wanchope scored the winner when Sturridge headed a ball over the usually resistant Campbell, allowing the striker to drive the ball home for the decisive goal.
