Here is the final Premier League Review of the season, with a link to the index of all results and tables over the course of another exciting Premier League season.
Still to come in the next couple of weeks will be exclusive Spurs Odyssey features such as the form guide for the month of May, a review of the season which will include my "moment of the Month" for each of the TEN months in which we played, and the Spurs Odyssey accumulated player grades for the season. I shall also be offering my player profiles for the PFA's Players' Who's Who annual, and shall reproduce those here soon.
In the mean time, here is a personal assessment of the players by Philip Oliver, who blogs about football betting at Betfair:- (The views are those of the author, but not necessarily the webmaster)
Tottenham player ratings 2008/09
Heurelho Gomes 7/10
He recovered from his well-publicised difficult start to become an imposing and reliable presence.
Vedran Corluka 7.5
Never rushed, which can be a bad thing as well as good. Filled in well at centre back, but he should be first choice right back next season.
Ledley King 8
Work hard, party hard seems to be Ledley’s motto and he was nothing short of excellent when fit. Playing once a week appeared not to be a problem and the manager will not rush to reinforce the centre of defence.
Jonathan Woodgate 8.5
A more crucial player than King this season, which says everything about his displays. His injury problems are now not even mentioned and he appears to be at his peak. Player of the season.
Benoit Assou-Ekotto 7
He fought off Bale’s challenge to become an automatic selection. One of the most improved players, he is sound defensively and a willing threat going forward. Tackling technique needs work.
Aaron Lennon 8
Our flying winger deservedly won back his England place and went some way to dispel the belief that his final ball is usually lacking.
Jermaine Jenas 7
He formed a good partnership with Palacios in the middle and again seems to have a long-term future.
Wilson Palacios 7.5
A fine tackler, he hunts the ball with vigour and lifts the crowd with his competitive spirit. Seems a safe football bet that a long Spurs career beckons.
Luka Modric 7.5
The team’s principal creative talent, he deserves to have a starring role next term. Versatile and skilful, he has been a key man despite the inevitable slow start.
Darren Bent 7
His future at the club remains uncertain, but few can argue with his goal-scoring record.
Roman Pavlyuchenko 6.5
Another player who might be on the move, as the suspicion remains that the manager wants his own ‘big man’ up front. He failed to score away from home, but like Bent can guarantee a decent tally with decent service.
Carlo Cudicini 6
His arrival coincided with Gomes’ renaissance and another spell as understudy beckons.
Michael Dawson 7
He recaptured some of his 2005/06 form and proved he can be commanding without King alongside him. Sporadic appearances are the best he can hope for next year.
Gareth Bale 6
He saved his best for last, producing an excellent display as wing back at Everton. With confidence can become an important player.
Jamie O’Hara 6.5
Clichés abound when thinking of O’Hara and it is fair to say he lived up to them, although he showed some craft as well as endeavour.
Didier Zokora 6
It is difficult to see a future with Palacios in the picture. A fine Spurs servant, his time might have passed.
Tom Huddlestone 6.5
He remains an enigma and the manager might end up losing patience. Still promises more than he delivers.
David Bentley 5
His Spurs career appears over before it has properly begun and our big summer signing last year could be this year’s main departure.
Jermain Defoe 7
A welcome return, he deserves to be first choice next season. Sharp and hungry, he is playing his best football of his career.
Robbie Keane 6.5
He understandably took time to settle back in. The touch, confidence and goals will surely return for the next Premier League campaign.
