Why we love playing Manchester City!
Statistically, Spurs could not have asked for a better team to play against than Manchester City for last night's crucial "play-off" for fourth place.
Our record against them in the Premier League now reads:-
Prem Pl W D L For-Ag Pts
Home 13 10 2 1 21 -10 32
Away 13 9 2 2 19 -12 29

Total(Prem) 26 19 4 3 40 -22 61

That's a healthy 2.34 points per game, and even better than Harry Redknapp's overall record as Spurs manager. We've managed more Premier League points only against Everton, but that is partly because Everton, like us, are ever presents in the Premier League from which City were absent for several years.
The last time Spurs finished in the top four was in 1989-90 before the advent of the Premier League. Spurs have not won 21 league games in a season since 1986-87, when we finished third. That season is also memorable for a disappointing Cup Final defeat, which we may equate to our semi-final elimination by Portsmouth this year.
Spurs could of course get their 22nd win at Burnley on Sunday (to be televised on ESPN), and you have to go back to 1984-85 for a better win record (23), when we also finished third. Mind you, that was a 42 match season too!
Spurs have not drawn a league game for 12 games, during which time we have won 9 and lost 3 games.
Peter Crouch is the only Spurs player to have played in every one of our Premier League games this season. he has made 20 starts and appeared as substitute on the other 17 occasions. he has scored 8 league goals, but created many more either directly, or by his presence and threat to defences. Crouch and Defoe have scored 28 goals in the 30 matches they have started together this season.
The last time Spurs finished above Liverpool in the league was 39 years ago in 1970-71. When we were third and Liverpool fifth.
Have you noticed the number of times I have mentioned third place in this item? Did you know that Spurs COULD finish third on Sunday? Come on Fulham!
