We ARE title contenders!
Following last night's Chelsea win over Man City and AVB's comment that the win makes Chelsea title contenders, I am pleased to report that it also makes Spurs contenders. Perversely, during our 11 match unbeaten run and 6 successive league wins, I never really contemplated such a thought, but with the game in hand and (hopefully) wins at home against Sunderland and Chelsea next week, then why not?
Luka Modric won your Spurs man of the match vote for the Stoke game, and was head and shoulders above everybody else really, whereas the vote has been very, very close in recent games. We had over 250 responses this week, and I promised you some comments about referee Chris Foy (aka Olympic Cycling triple medallist Sir Chris Hoy!), whose final score was a record low of 1.6 out of 10. That won't do his average a lot of good. Nor will it get him a good welcome next time we see him officiating in a Tottenham game.
Anyway, here are some of your comments, edited where necessary, because otherwise "Newsnow" won't allow the story on their pages! (62 comments were made, which is aalso a record!)
"The worst refereeing performance i can remember."
"W*nker!"
"Can I not select 0?? This man should never referee a game of football again!" (The Spurs Odyssey" survey does not allow a zero mark)
"Zero is not available for referees otherwise I would have used it. This was the worst refereeing performance I have seem in 55 years of watching football. I'd give greater detail on this but found I was 120 characters over before I was a third of the way through. Let's just say it involved fouls, handballs, corners, throw-ins, bookings given and not given, use of towelling from under shirts, offsides and blatant time wasting. He was a disgrace to his profession."
"Absolute stinker; made many poor decisions and could easily have sent off Woodgate for a bad challenge on Parker soon after being booked & Shawcross for deliberate handball on the line!"
"Absolutely 'c***tesque' - He was following orders from FA to give the chasing pack a breather because if we had won we would have left the teams below us breathless! Simple.
But we will pick ourselves up next game. Poor Sunderland and I will boldly say we will beat chelski! That's a statement."
"Awful . I think he got his referee licence out of a cracker jacks box."
"Very poor - too lenient with Stoke's time wasting, missed penalties, goal disallowed incorrectly and Kaboul sent off when Woodgate should have gone in first half. Couldn't even get corners awarded correctly. Mr Foy needs a few weeks off after that. Don't usually add comments."
"A complete and utter tool! one of the worst refs in the business for us on this day and most certainly the worse performance by a referee i have ever witnessed!"
"Spurs lost because of the two sloppy and disgustingly poor goals conceded. That said, Foy embarrassed an entire profession today."
Sorry if your comment wasn't used, but I've read them all, and thank you very much.
