Spurs fans are just loving Adebayor!
Spurs have now beaten Liverpool in four consecutive home league games. It's not that long ago since we last achieved such a feat either, as we also beat them four times at home between December 1998 and April 2002. Check out the Spurs Odyssey archive pages and you can find reports on all these games. You have to go back to the first four league meetings between the two clubs for the only other occasion when we have had 4 wins on the trot at home. (Between 1909 and 1913). Add the November 2008 Carling Cup game, and Spurs have managed five consecutive home wins against Liverpool.
There were 325 responses to the post-match survey for the Liverpool game, and as always after such a win, the results were really positive. Right from the start, Emmanuel Adebayor was leading the way, and that's how it ended, with the Man City loanee finishing with a score of 8.7 out of ten, thus pipping Luka Modric and Scott Parker for the man of the match award. Most press reports focussed on our new midfield partnership, but Adebayor's two goals influenced the Spurs Odyssey voters.
Adebayor has made a great start to his Spurs career, and if he carries on scoring at this rate, we'll be begging Daniel Levy to make the signing permanent at the end of the season. However, could/would Spurs pay his wages? Let's see how the season goes first, eh?
This week's Spursometer score was naturally high, with an overall mark of 80.6%, which is the highest of the season so far, pipping the 5-0 against Hearts. Harry Redknapp matches his overall score of 82% for team selection, tactics and substitutions. Even referee Mike Jones scored an 8, which equals the mark given to the officials for our 3-1 home win over Inter last November. As you can tell, officials usually get thought of kindly when we win. Mr. Jones got one of the lower scores when he officiated in last season's home game against Everton. Overall, he is not one of our favourite referees, although I've only been collecting grades for officials since January 2010.
Our new-found love for Adebayor means an end to THAT song, which I personally did not like anyway. I never understood why, when we took the lead against Chelsea in the 2008 Carling Cup Final, a section of our fans launched into a chorus of THAT song. It is also encouraging to hear the "Better than John Terry" Ledley King song more these days.
