Sandro is Mister Consistency for Spurs!
Spurs' midfielder Sandro was voted our man of the match in Sunday's game at Goodison Park, and has proved to be Mister Consistency for us this season. He's been appreciated ever since he made his Spurs debut against Aston Villa in October 2010, but this season the Brazilian ace is a true contender for Spurs player of the season.
There is a long way to go of course, but after Sunday's game Sandro has judged edged fractionally above Mousa Dembele in the accumulated Spurs Odyssey ratings. I can tell you though that Sandro is similarly only a fraction behind Hugo Lloris who holds the number one slot. Jan Vertonghen has slipped to fourth at this time. Add Gareth Bale to the mix, and there are five real contenders there.
Sandro has been in particularly great form in the last 8 consecutive Spurs games, and has had to carry the burden of Dembele's absence with injury in the defensive section of the Spurs midfield. In those last 8 games, Sandro has scored 7 or more in all but one game.
Another feature of the Brazilian's game this season has been a little more discipline and awareness of the danger of yellow cards. He has been carded 3 times so far in 21 games this season, which is less than Jan Vertonghen, and Gareth Bale. This is good going for such a combative player.
The least said about Sunday's defeat at the death, the better really. It is horrible when you lose a game in such circumstances, but of course a sweet experience if it happens in your favour. It happened in our favour against Everton live on Sky in October 1993, when we were 2-1 down with two minutes of normal time remaining. Darren Anderton scored a dramatic equaliser, before another Darren - Caskey scored a sensational winning goal at the death.
