6 points better than same games last season!
My good friend Gary Parker has provided us with his "Like for Like" spreadsheet, in which our results each season are reorded and compared with those for the same games in the preceding season.
Latest Year on Year Spurs comparison results (up to and including 03.11.13) are now available
The file (Microsoft Excel required) can be found by following the link above, and will be updated as regularly as possible throughout the season.
You might be surprised to know that, game for game, Spurs are actually 6 points better off than they were last season, so statistically, they are well on target to beat last season's record points total for our time in the Premier League.
We've improved our points tally in 5 of our 10 games, including Sunday's game at Goodison Park. The other gains were the home games against Chelsea, Norwich and Hull (who replaced Wigan). The away win at Crystal Palace was also deemed to be a gain, as Palace replaced relegated QPR in our file. The only game where we did worse was of course that horrible 3-0 home defeat by West Ham.
The file gives you direct links to the relevant match reports, if you wish to have a closer look. There are only two more league games this month (Newcastle at home, and Man City away). Just a point at City would be a gain on last year.
On the other hand, the loss of two points has led to us falling behind our best ever Premier League start of two years ago. Statistics are all very well, but there is plenty that the fans are not happy about at present, especially the lack of league goals.
Jan Vertonghen was your man of the match at Goodison Park, and it was his first winning vote of the season. Despite the lack of goals, the Spursometer clearly indicates a better team performance all round than in any of our preceding three games. Hugo Lloris was greatly applauded for his sheer bravery and determination to carry on after that clash with Lukaku, which has attracted plenty of media attention and criticism of Spurs. The club has strongly defended its stance, stating they followed clear medical procedures, and that Hugo was cleared to play on.
