The Final Countdown
Here is our last round-up of Premier League results for the 2013-14 season. Spurs Odyssey has been providing this match-by-match service since the beginning of the 2001-02 season, so if you visit the archives page, you could find out the result of any Premier League game since that time.
Spurs confirmed their place in Europe, with a comfortable win over a poor Aston Villa side, whose fans made their own entertainment. We actually finished five points ahead of Manchester United, and that is the first time in Premier League history that we have finished above United, and the first time since the 1989-90 season, when we finished third, and they finished thirteenth. I liked those days!
Paulinho and Eriksen shared your man of the match vote. Paulinho has disappointed Spurs fans over the course of the season, with a moderate overall grade, but he did score his sixth Premier League goal of the season, and his eighth in all competitions. Paulinho has proved to be a midfielder who does have any eye for the goal and a creative pass, which means he gets into the enemy box more than many of our midfielders in recent years!
This was Paulinho's first man of the match vote since we beat Stoke at home on 29th December, and only his fourth of the season.
As for Christian Eriksen, the 22 year old Dane has out-scored Paulinho with 7 League goals and 10 in all competitions. Eriksen has been voted by Spurs Odyssey readers as man of the match seven times, five of which have been since mid-March, during which period he has also scored half his club goals. Perhaps those recent memories have been a big reason for Eriksen winning both the Young Player of the Seasoon, and the Player of the Season vote from Official Tottenham Hotspur members.
Spurs Odyssey voters have very clearly voted Hugo Lloris as their player of the season, with Eriksen very, very marginally behind Adebayor in the accumulated vote.
The clean sheet on Sunday was our 21st of the season, seven of which were under Tim Sherwood's leadership. Perhaps that is a more telling statistic than his 59% Premier league win record. Tim has now gone, of course, and the speculation mounts regarding Pochettino coming to Spurs.
I'll comment more about the AVB/Sherwood comparison in my brief May review, and the end of season form guide in the next few days.
Thanks for all your votes, and comments. Have a great summer, and keep an eye on Spurs Odyssey!
