Praise to the assistant referee
Andros Townsend was voted man of the match for the third time this season, after well over 200 Spurs Odyssey readers offered their thoughts and cast their votes on Sunday's performance.
One reader commented about the game:- "Good team performance especially in second half. Too predictable in first half but great to see Sandro back and Townsend continuing his fine form."
There were certainly some diverse comments made, such as:- "It was a very mediocre performance punctuated by a few moments from Townsend."
The message I am receiving from various sources, is that despite matching our best Premier League 8-match points total (16), and improving over last year by two points, Spurs fans are still not satisfied with performances and entertainment value. Most want results and entertainment.I understand that, but as I wrote in my report, the game improved, as did Spurs, once we scored and Villa were obliged to open up.
Football certainly is a game of opinions, and no-one could agree with both of these about Vlad Chiriches:-
1. "Chiriches is looking a liability to me. Hope he proves me wrong."
2. "Chiriches made a big difference to the defence enabling our fifth game out of eight with no goals conceded."
According to the Tottenham Hotspsur official twitter account, Chiriches was voted man of the match by their voters! I personally thought he played well, despite a few stray passes early in the game. Michael Dawson hit stray passes too, but very few Spurs fans criticise our leader!
Finally, I thought this excellent comment reflects the views of all reasonably-minded Spurs fans about assistant referee David Bryan:- "My praise goes to the linesman who was hit by the flare, and with little fuss carried on. I for one don't care who the two idiots support, I hope they are banned from every ground for a very long time, like forever."
Thanks as always for your participation in the post-match survey, which in my view truly enhances the value of Spurs Odyssey
