Spurs Odyssey Reviews the Premiership Season
for 2014-2015 - Match 2

So much to cherish at this early stage of the season!

It could not have been closer, but Erik Lamela won Sunday's man of the match vote, scoring 8.3, and beating Eric Dier and Nacer Chadli by 0.1 for that accolade. It was Lamela's second successive man of the match win in the three games we have played so far.

I note that the same three players topped the poll on the official site, with Lamela on top, winning 64.3% of the votes cast.

This was perceived by our voters (well over 200 of them) as our best team performance in a League game since we beat Manchester United at Old Trafford in September, 2012. The team managed the same overall mark this time last year when we beat Dinamo Tbilisi 5-0

Mauricio Pochettino's "brilliant tactics" won him an overall assessment of 8.4 out of 10. Funnily enough, that figure was also reached by AVB in that Man Utd game.

Let's hope for similar heights next Sunday, when Liverpool come to The Lane.

There is so much to cherish about Sunday's performance, and our early results. We are top of the league after two games. The last time I can find us in that position was at the start of the 2009-10 season, when Harry was in charge. We went top after two games, having won 5-1 at Hull, and stayed there after game three, thanks to beating West Ham 2-1 away.

That's as long as it lasted, and by the time we play Liverpool on Sunday, another team will be above us, I expect. Still, as my good friend Erlend Nordmo has stated on his Facebook account, the title is in our hands, as we only need to win all our games! There is also the matter of goal difference, and we are only joking too!

There has been some glowing praise of 20 year old Eric Dier, who looks a real find, and a star already. He might even get an England call-up for next week's International break. He'd deserve a chance, in my opinion at senior level. Dier has played for the England Under-21s before - four times last year, three of which were as substitute. I am sure he is going to remain first choice for Spurs this season.

We are all keeping our feet on the ground, of course, but we could hardly ask for more of our new coach and his squad at this early juncture.
