Least said, best forgotten
Enough has been said really about our 3-0 surrender at Old Trafford on Sunday, but I just need to wrap up this episode of this season's Premier League review. Don't forget that you check up on the results of Premier League games for any week over the last 14 years here on Spurs Odyssey. Usually, you will find comment in each article, regarding the team's efforts. For this season's matches, you need to check out the current Premier League review index. For previous seasons, you need to visit our archives section.
This week, not for the first time, Hugo Lloris was voted the "least worst" Spurs player. Hugo was the only player to get a mark over 5. I have to admit, I don't really understand how a player who let in three goals, and hardly had a save to make other than those occasions can still win the vote. It has to be viewed as heavy comment about the team in front of our Captain.
Left back Danny Rose and the much-loved Harry Kane came closest to making 5 out of 10 (4.9). Kyle Walker got his worst mark ever (2.9), and indeed one of the worst marks ever given on Spurs Odyssey in a post-match survey.
One of the most disturbing factors in our recent performances is that we haven't kept a clean sheet for 10 games, and have only managed two in 18 game so far in 2015. One of those was against League One Sheffield United. The other was at West Brom. Even lowly Sunderland, who sacked their manager Gus Poyet this week, have managed four clean sheets this year.
For me, the biggest disappointment was not the defeat, but the totally abject performance, after all my optimism in the preview. We've now played 48 games, and this was the eighth sub-par performance of the season by the team and head coach. Socks need to be pulled up, and problems addressed before Saturday's potential banana skin against Leicester. (They also have more clean sheets to their name in 2015 than Spurs!)
We know that we are not good enough for top four. However, I would go as far as to say we are very likely to win a place in the Europa League yet again. Whether you like it or not, that's our level. Personally, I do value any trip across the water, so I like it.
