Spurs Odyssey Reviews the Premiership Season
for 2015-2016 - Match 11

When was the last time......?

1. We had a run of 10 Premier League games unbeaten?

The answer (with thanks to Declan Mulcahy) is at the end of the 2012-13 season and start of the 2013-14 season. We had an 8 game run at the end of one season, and won our first two games in August. Previously, we were not beaten in 12 consecutive games between December 2012 and March 2013. Both these runs were achieved under Andre Villas-Boas.

2. We were 9 points and 10 places above Chelsea?

It is hard to say precisely with certainty (without deep research), but we did finish third in Division One in 1986-87, with 71 points, whilst Chelsea fifnished 11 places below us on 52 points. Not even the following year, when Chelsea were one of four teams relegated to allow the reduction in top tier teams, did we finish much higher. Chelsea went down with 42 points, and we were five points and five places better off.

It took Chelsea a while in the early nineties to fully establish themselves in the top tier, but we didn't finish above them after 95-96, until that fateful 2011-12 season, when we did finish fourth to their sixth, but we all know what happened after that. Let's hope we maintain superiority this season, but we all know there is a long way to go yet.

3. We beat Arsenal at The Emirates?

Only once, five years ago, in November 2010. Let's hope it happens again next Sunday!

Harry Kane's return to good scoring habits means that he has now scored 21 goals so far in 2015, three more than any other premier league player.

Spurs maintain their current superiority over Villa, who managed to beat us just once (in April) in their last 14 attempts. They have now lost seven successive games. Next up for them are Man City.

Dele Alli was given the Sky Sports man of the match award, and shared that accolade with Mousa Dembele after the Spurs Odysssey vote.
