Spurs Odyssey Reviews the Premiership Season
for 2015-2016 - Match 22

Spurs top London team this week-end!

Last night's defeat at Swansea for Watford confirmed another good week-end for Spurs who were the only Premier League side in London to win in the latest round of fixtures. Despite the overall Premier League table, we can say we were the top London team this week-end!

Spurs started it all off with their convincing win over relegation-threatened Sunderland. Chelsea scraped a home draw against Everton, and that was only with the benefit of a 98th minute offside goal by John Terry. I can't recall seeing Chelsea celebrate a late home equaliser in quite such exuberant fashion as was seen at Stamford Bridge on Saturday! Long may their sojurn in the bottom half of the table continue!

West Ham lost at Newcastle, which leaves them four points behind us, and Arsenal drew 0-0 at The Britannia Stadium. Pre-match, Arsene Wenger was even quoted as saying that the abuse directed at him by Stoke fans is even worse than that he receives at White Hart Lane. That's saying something!

Regarding our London rivals, we currently top the unofficial London Derby league for this season. Chelsea and Palace (who got thrashed at The Etihad) have played 6 of their 10 games, whilst the other teams have played half their games (5).

We haven't lost a London Derby Premier League game yet this season. Each of our local rivals have lost at least two games. Our next local game is on Saturday at Selhurst Park, whilst on Sunday Chelsea play at The Emirates Stadium in a game which hopefully will benefit us on both local derby and Premier League fronts.

It hasn't been so long since we had such a good day compared to the other London teams. On Boxing Day, West Ham, Palace, Chelsea and Watford all drew, whilst Arsenal lost 4-0 at Southampton. We need more days like that!

For all their dour play, United's 1-0 win at Anfield makes them our closest rivals for the top four. They have two home games next against Southampton and Stoke, whilst we have trips to Palace and Norwich.

Mousa Dembele was your man of the match for the sixth time this season, in which he has started 16 of our 30 games played so far in all competitions. Dembele is now in hot pursuit of Toby Alderweireld and Hugo Lloris for the player of the season vote.

Thanks as always for all your votes, which make the spursometer a valid representation of the fans' views on our team. See the full results here

Did you know? - Andy Carroll (injured again) has yet to play at St. James' Park Newcastle since he signed full time for West Ham in the summer of 2013. However, he did play there when he was on loan at West Ham in November 2012, and also once as a Liverpool player. 27 year old Andy has managed 7 premier leaue starts this season.
