Running out of superlatives!
Unsurprisingly, following our momentous win on Sunday at The Etihad Stadium, the media and social media has been full of superlatives about our beloved Tottenham Hotspur. My personal stock of comments about our supreme, brilliant, excellent, magnificent, outstanding first-rate performance is running dry!
Naturally, after such a great result, the Spurs Odyssey voters have been generous in their assessment of the team performance and that of the head coach, Mauricio Pochettino. We have now played 36 games in all competitions this season, and two of our best three performances have been those against Manchester City. The spursometer reading for the home game was 77.8%, whilst it reached 79.2% on Sunday. Pochettino exceeded 8 out of 10 on both occasions. The other "top three" game was the 4-1 home win against West Ham.
We are seven points and five places better off than this time last year. Gary Parker's "Like for Like" table indicates that we have done better in 11 games this season compared to last; that we are 13 points better off than against the same opponents last season, and it confirms that we took all six points off City this season compared to zero last season!
We are in a title race! What's not to like?!
There were 14 heroes playing for Spurs on Sunday, but only two of them could share your man of the match vote, and those players were Danny Rose and Toby Alderweireld. I can tell you that Alderweireld has crept ahead of Hugo Lloris by the very slimmest of margins at this stage for the player of the season vote. That contest, like the race for Premier League glory, is far from over.
