Spurs Odyssey Reviews the Premiership Season
for 2015-2016 - Match 28

"It's a blip"

Mauricio Pochettino has apparently dismissed suggestions that Spurs were tired and on the wane on Wednesday night at Upton Park. The word is that our performance was a blip, and we'll be raring to go for the "fight" against Arsenal tomorrow.

In the circumstances, perhaps the watchword about Upton Park is the least said, the better. I think the following comment, offered in my post-match survey by regular correspondent Philip Brackstone sums it up:-

"Worst performance of the season but I think the team should take great credit for a terrific run of results and the resolve displayed throughout the squad. It's sods' law that it happened to go so wrong over there, especially in Spurs' last ever performance at this venue and on the back of so many victories on that pitch in recent years. There were so many misplaced passes but the true measure of champions is to draw a line under a performance of this nature and go again on another great run."

Toby Alderweireld was voted the best Spurs player in this game, just ahead of Hugo Lloris and Christian Eriksen. It's a game and performance that all the players swill want to forget and to put right though!
