Kane's ambition
Following his two goals on Sunday, and a fine win for Spurs over Bournemouth, Harry Kane has admitted he dreams of breaking Alan Shearer's Premier League scoring record of 260. Whilst, Harry might not have actually used the word "ambition", his dream does clearly indicate just how driven a character we have wearing our number 10 shirt.
Harry has now scored 45 Premier League goals since his first LESS THAN TWO YEARS AGO in April 2014. Harry, not 23 till July this year, has already scored 21 league goals for the second successive season, and will break the record of Gareth Bale and Teddy Sheringham for Spurs. He is only the fifth Englishman to score 20 or more goals in consecutive Premier League campaigns, and the first as a Spurs player.
In addition, Kane is the first Spurs player to hit 20 or more league goals in successive seasons since Martin Chivers (1970-71 and 1971-72). Jimmy Greaves scored over 20 goals in 4 successive seasons between 1961 and '64, and then in 3 successive seasons between 1966 and '69. Both Steve Archibald and Gary Lineker have scored 20 or more goals in two seasons for us, but not in successive seasons.
How good will Harry Kane be next season if he finds his Premier League scoring boots from the start of the programme? Remember, his first Premier League goal in 2014-15 came in November, and this season Harry's hat-trick at Bournemouth in late October were only his second, third and fourth league goals of the season. Now he leads Jamie Vardy by two goals with Lukaku one further behind.
Harry's dream may not come true, but it should be great fun to watch him season after season IN A SPURS SHIRT trying to achieve more scoring records.
Harry Kane was your man of the match on Sunday, not only for his two goals and the assist for Eriksen's tap-in, but for an excellent all-round performance. The whole team performed well, as can be seen in the spursometer.
Harry's first man of the match award came in the away game against Bournemouth, and this is his eighth such vote this season. On 5 of those occasions, he has scored 8 or more 5 times!
Look out for the Spurs Odyssey review of March. One of my talking points will be Kevin Wimmer and the forthcoming return to fitness of Jan Vertonghen.
It's good to be a Spur!
P.S - Our 61 points from 31 games is, of course, a Premier League record for the club, and for four out of the last league games we have been ahead of our previous record points totals at each stage.
