Reminder:- There was football before The Premier league!
Dele Alli (still only 20) has now scored 16 goals in 50 Premier League appearances and becomes the second most impactive Spurs midfield player after 50 games in the Premier League era, after only Rafa van der Vaart. Dele also has 10 assists to his name to add to the goals. As a comparison, and just to remind people that football did exist before The Premier League, a certain James P. Greaves scored 48 goals in his first 50 league games for Spurs! Jimmy was 22 at the end of that spell. In fairness, I've looked up Gazza, Hoddle and Peters, and their comparitive figures do not appear to be as good in terms of goals scored over the first 50 league games.
The penalty awarded by Mike Dean was the 10th that this referee has given this season, more than any of his colleagues, and the first Harry Kane has missed this season, and after 11 successive successful penalties for Spurs over the last two years. Mike Dean remains the referee we have seen the most in recent years (29 games since January 2010, and many more since 2000), and he remains the highest rated of current referees in the eyes of Spurs Odyssey voters. There was debate about that penalty, and Mr. Dean missed a two-footed challenge by Fonte on Danny Rose, but he still scored 6.5 in this game
As mentioned in the report, both Kyle Walker and Jan Vertonghen got their fifth bookings and will miss Sunday's game, but of course they will be rested for Wednesday's Chelsea match! There was talk about a possible further suspension for jan Vertonghen for allegedly dragging his hand across Jay Rodriguez's face, but there will be no sanction regarding this incident. Danny Rose got his seventh booking of the season and needs to be careful about the 10-booking mark, which will lead to a two-match suspension.
This was our fourth away win of the season so far, in all competitions, and Son Heung-min has scored in each of those games.
Spurs have won 71 premier League points in this calendar year, which beats their previous record of 70 in 2013.
Dele Alli was your man of the match, which is consistent with the award on Sky TV, and on the Spurs Official site.
