Spurs Odyssey Reviews the Premiership Season
for 2016-2017 - Matchday Five

Top team in London!

After five weeks of Premier League action, Spurs are the top team in London and they hold third place. Long may this situation remain!

With Arsenal playing Chelsea this week (on Saturday evening), they can't both go above us, even if we should slip up at Middlesbrough - and we shouldn't do that!

It's been a big week this week in the Premeier League for former Spurs players, not least for Nacer Chadli who had a fantastic home debut for West Brom, scoring two and also getting two assists in their 4-2 win over West Ham. The gag doing the rounds about West Ham is that they are so committed to celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of "their World Cup win" that they are losing 4-2 every week! Bilic's side have now lost their last four games, including that embarrassing Europa League exit. Regarding Chadli's second goal, this was scored on the break when he and Rondon raced towards the West Ham goal. Chadli was just behind Rondon, but I swear I have never seen him run so fast!

Now that Harry Kane is out with an ankle injury (perhaps for as long as two months), Spurs may rue letting Chadli go, but there is plenty of potential for goals from Janssen, Son and players such as Dele Alli and Lamela. Kane's two goals so far have been sitters, and I feel the enforced break could be good for the player and for the team.

Chadli was one of the seven players Spurs bought three years ago with the "Bale money", and another one of those was Etienne Capoue who is currently turning heads at Watford, for whom he has now scored 4 goals this season (in five attempts on goal). His last was Watford's first goal in Sunday's 3-1 win over Mourinho's Man Utd, who have lost three consecutive games in a week, including their Europa League defeat to Feyenoord.

Andros Townsend had a fine game and scored a goal for Crystal Palace, who became the third Premier League side to put four goals past Mark Hughes' Stoke side, languishing at the bottom of the table.

Spurs are our focus, of course, and Son Heung-min was a convincing winner of the man of the match vote for his all-action performance in Sunday's win over Sunderland. "Sonny Boy" has now won that vote in two out of three games.
