Spurs Odyssey Reviews the Premier League Season
for 2017-2018 - Matchday 17

The rising Son

A lot has been written about the prolific scoring record of Harry Kane, but not so much about Spurs' second highest goalscorer this season - Son Heung-min. Harry Kane has had such an excellent calendar year in 2017, and so has Son.

Harry hit the 50 goal mark last week when he scored twice against Stoke, and is only one goal behind leading Premier League scorer Mohamed Salah. Son has quietly appeared in the list of leading Premier League scorers recently, helped by the fact he has scored in four consecutive games, three of which were in the Premier League.

Another mark of the recent form of Son is the fact that he was voted the man of the match for the third consecutive game against Brighton, and now has four such votes to his name in the last 6 games. Only Harry Kane has emulated that level of admiration this season. Son has scored 11 goals in all games this season, including two against Davinson Sanchez's Colombia, and yes, Sanchez was playing in that game! In the calendar year, Son has a total of 25 goals to his name. Not bad going for a player who has rarely been guaranteed a start in Pochettino's side, but who now surely cannot be denied a regular start.

Incidentally, Dele Alli who has scored 7 club goals so far this season, is only one behind Son, who has 8 club goals to his name this term. I expect them both to start tomorrow's exciting game against Man City, when our hold on fourth place will come under great pressure. Incidentally, congratulations must go to Manchester City who achieved an all-time record for any top flight side of 15 consecutive wins with their 4-0 win at Swansea. It certainly is a phenomenal record. Maybe we can end it tomorrow!
