We didn't play, but Kane gets a mention!
It seems really strange to have a full week during the Christmas holiday without a game, but thanks to the fixtures computer, Sky, and the fact our proposed New Year's Eve opponents were to be West Ham, we have to wait till next Thursday.
Even though we did not play, the Premier League's leading scorer Harry Kane got a mention at Anfield when Mohamed Salah scored both Liverpool's goals as they came back from an early Leicester goal to win 2-1. "He's coming for you, He's coming for you! Harry Kane, Salah is coming for you!" Salah's two goals put him still one behind Harry.
Now we have to wait somewhat nervously to see if Harry will play at Swansea on Tuesday night, having been told that he did not train after the Boxing Day game through illness. A severe case of "manflu", I suspect. Mind you, with two games to play in two days. Harry might need a rest before facing West Ham anyway!
Swansea's new manager Carlos Carvalhal got a good start with a win at Watford, but they have gone back to the bottom of the table today after West Brom got a controversial late goal against Arsenal, when Mike Dean awarded a penalty, which was converted for a point. Arsene Wenger and his players were bitter, and with their next game against Chelsea on Wednesday night, I suppose they felt three points rather than one were required at The Hawthorns to enhance their top four chances. Arsenal have gone a point ahead of us, but if we win both games against Swansea and West Ham, we will be back above them. We can take nothing for granted, of course!
Man Utd could only draw at home to Southampton, and have lost Lukaku to injury. Even Man City were held for the first time since August at Selhurst Park, and also lost key players (Jesus Gabriel and De Bruyne) to injury.
Although we have had to sit this weekend out, the results of most of our rivals for a top four place went in our favour. Happy New Year everyone!
