Spurs Odyssey Reviews the Premier League Season
for 2017-2018 - Matchday 27

High marks and high praise for Dembele!

Mousa Dembele won the Spurs Odyssey man of the match vote following the win over Arsenal, and has won high praise from various sources, not least this week's Norman Giller blog.

Indeed, one of our voters wrote:- "Dembele was magnificent, there's not a better ball carrier in football. When he's fit and on his game he's sublime."

Dembele fluctuated between 8.7 and 8.8 throughout the vote (well over 200 were cast), and I was asked if his was the highest mark ever on the Spurs Odyssey surveys. The short answer is "No".

For the record, highest marks awarded this season are:-

9.1 - Lloris (A v Real Madrid)
      Kane (H v Southampton)

8.9 - Kane (A v Apoel, A v Burnley)
    - Eriksen (H v Man Utd)

8.8 - Kane (H v Liverpool)
    - Dele (H v Real Madrid)
    - Dembele (H v Arsenal)

8.7 - Kane (A v Huddersfield)
      Son (H v Everton)

There are certainly a good number of high performances reflected above!

Dembele won our man of the match vote for the third time this season and for the first time since our early season disappointments for the team at home to Chelsea and to Burnley. He scored better than in those two games in the games at home to Man Utd (8.3) and also at home to Everton (7.9).

Harry Kane currently leads Jan Vertonghen in the player of the season category, based upon average grades over the course of the season. I note that both Jan and Christian Eriksen have been nominated for the Premier League player of the month award for January. I wrote about a statistical dilemma regarding these two players in my January review.

Kane scored 9.3 v Leicester and 9.4 v Hull at the end of last season.

Gareth Bale scored a few 9s or over in his time. Three were towards the end of the 11-12 season.
