We all knew that November was going to be a difficult month for us, with a home game against Chelsea, and difficult away trips to Highbury and even Sunderland, who despite their lowly league position, will always be a challenging venue, due to the massive support, even before the arrival of a new manager, who has invigorated the side. Now we face Terry Venables' Leeds side, who will be as desperate for the three points as we are.
Leeds are one of only five sides below us in the form league, calculated over the last 6 games, as they have just 5 points to our 7. Venables' team has lost its last four home games, but has not lost an away league game since 22nd September, at Blackburn. Despite the fans' furore. Leeds do have two very useful scalps to their name, with wins over their enemy Man Utd, and a 2-0 win at Newcastle in mid-September.
It is a full calendar month since Spurs won a game. We have only one point from our last four, and we have lost 4 out of our last 5 games, including that dismal defeat at Turf Moor. Yet here we are, having to play yet another team that has a better record than us in our 20 Premiership encounters to date. Spurs do have a reasonable home record though, enhanced by holding on for a 2-1 victory last April.
I cannot remember the last bad game between these two sides, but I suspect this time, it might be a fraught affair, with no quarter given physically. It is so difficult to predict Hoddle's team, but with a number of centre-backs fit, and possibly Ziege fit to play, this could be the time for Glenn to revert to a 3-5-2 with a line-up such as Keller; Perry, Richards, King; Carr, Davies, Redknapp, Freund, Ziege; Sheringham, Keane. Subs could be Hirschfeld; Thatcher, Gardner; Poyet; Anderton
Spurs now play 3 out of their next 4 games at home, and we must reap at least 7 points from the next 3 games before we have to play the gooners again, in my view. Therefore, at least 1 point must be forthcoming from Sunday's Pay Per View game. It will, of course be good to see how Robbie Keane gets on against his old team mates, but his greatest asset to us this week could be that he has trained with Leeds under Venables, and will be able to give Glenn Hoddle some useful insights. I have to go for a Spurs win - 2-1.
