When was the last time that Spurs went to Anfield in third place? When we visited Anfield last year we started two points above the reds, but they won to leap above us, with two games in hand.
Liverpool are on top of the league and also top of form table with 16 points from last 6 games, whilst Spurs lie 9th in that table with 3 wins and 3 defeats. It is interesting to note that West Ham crept above us on form for their last six games, when they won midweek at Fulham. Don't worry, we are still 8 points above them in the league that counts!
Michael Owen has scored 5 goals in the league with four of them in his last 3 games, plus a hat-trick in Europe on Tuesday. Barros, Murphy and Riise have 3 league goals, but who can say who will get the nod from Houllier to play in Saturday's game? What we can say is that whovever plays, they will be formidable opposition.
If anything one could argue that Liverpool have impressed more away from home than at Anfield. They will sit back, even at home, and this week will probably miss Gerrard, recovering from a hip injury. Gerrard is often the main architect of the Liverpool strategy of long arrowed balls for the pacey forwards to run onto.
According to "The Physio Room" website, Spurs now only have two players on the injury list (Sullivan, and Ziege), although we know that King, Gardner, Anderton and Clemence are not match fit as yet. Liverpool will have Heggem, Xavier, and Henchoz unavailable, although as we know, their resources are many-fold, with more useful acquisitions in the close season, such as El Hadji Diouf (Lens, £10m), Salif Diao (Sedan, £5m), and Bruno Cheyrou (Lille, £4m).
The referee for this game is one of my least favourites - Mike Riley, who in 5 Premiership and one Nationwide games so far has issued 3 red cards and 24 yellows.
Spurs last draw was on the opening day of the season at Goodison Park. This Saturday's match will be a lot more difficult, but I'm hoping that Liverpool's legs will be all wobbly after the ir trip back from Moscow, and I'm going to predict a 1-1 draw, with Teddy to get on the mark for Spurs.
