When Tottenham knocked Man City out of the cup at White Hart Lane in 1935, City were the cup holders at the time.

Exactly 50 years ago this month Spurs played Man City at Maine Road in the fourth round of the cup. Spurs won 1-0 and progressed to the sixth round where they lost to the team that won the cup that year West Bromwich Albion.

Two years later Spurs played City at Villa Park in the semi-final. City were leading 1-0. In the last few minutes Blanchflower, the captain, made some tactical changes on the field. They did not result in a goal. Jimmy Anderson the manager was displeased at what Blanchflower had done and relieved him of the captaincy, thus ending his first spell as captain. When Bill Nicholson became manager he reinstated Blanchflower as captain and he went on to captain the double winning team.

Spurs lost 1-0 to Man City in 1969 at Maine Road in the sixth round. City went on to win the cup, the year after they had won the league. Their manager in those days was Joe Mercer.

In 1981 Spurs met Man City in the cup final at Wembley. The first match ended in a 1-1 draw, Man City's Tommy Hutchinson scoring both goals. He thus became the second player to score for both teams in a cup final.

The replay which Spurs won 3-2 will be remembered for Ricky Villa's super solo goal for Spurs.

In 1992-93 Spurs were drawn against Man City in the league cup for the first time and also met them in the FA Cup. Both games were at Maine Road and Spurs won both.

This season Spurs played Man City in the league cup for only the second time and again they play them the same season in the FA Cup. Spurs won the league cup game 3-1 with Helder Postiga scoring for the first time for Spurs.
