· Spurs Cup-tie history against Manchester City
After the excitement surrounding the arrival of Jermain Defoe, we must get our feet on the ground, as we play Man. City for the right to play Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday 14th February (12.30 kick off). Defoe will not be eligible, as he was not registered the requisite 7 days before the 4th Round was played. Remember though, that Jermain IS NOT cup-tied, as he was suspended when West Ham played in the 3rd round, so, IF we win, he would be available at Old Trafford.
City, of course, will be just as determined as us to get through for a chance to have a crack at their local enemies! They had a hard fought game in very tiring conditions on Sunday at the other end of the Seven Sisters Road, and although Anelka was sent off, that will not affect his presence in this game. (City are appealing that decision, anyway) City gave Arsenal a tough contest. The conditions for our game look like being very similar, so we must hope that the opposition are more tired than we are after the week-end's fixtures.
I don't expect the City side to look much different than in the first match, although perhaps Wright-Phillips may start on the right, as he did at Higbury. Darren Anderton MAY be fit enough for this game, but he will not be able to play against his old team on Saturday, due to a one-match suspension to be served for 5 bookings.
As Johny Nash once sung (ask your Mum and Dad, kids!) - there are more questions than answers about the Spurs line-up for this game, such as:-
1. Will Christian Ziege keep his place at left back?
2. Is there room for either John Jackson or Rohan Ricketts in this game? (Check out the reserve team line-up for Tuesday night's game for an indication of who might be in the running for a game against City. Anyone who starts for the reserves is unlikely to get further than the bench)
3. Will Kasey Keller's kicking and distribution improve after an awful display in these areas last saturday?
4. Will Keller now feel under pressure, knowing that Paul Robinson is likely to be at Spurs by next season?
5. Is Ledley King a midfield general?
It does seem certain that Postiga will line up with Keane, as there is no other recognised striker available.
Having predicted 3-1 to us in the away match, I'll stick to my guns, and say that this time, Spurs will win by that margin, as they did in the Carling Cup in December. After this, we'll only have to play City once more this season......
COME ON YOU SPURS!
