If you follow this link, then you can read last year's preview for our Fourth Round replay against Manchester City, which ended in ignominy for Spurs and is of course a game Spurs fans wish to forget. We certainly do not want anything resembling that result this Saturday!
You can also follow a link from that page to an article by Brian Judson, recalling some other ties at this stage of the competition over the years. One of those was Spurs biggest win, the anniversary of which passed on 3rd February. In 1960, Tottenham Hotspur achieved their record victory when they beat Crewe Alexandra 13-2 in a F.A. Cup Fourth Round replay at White Hart Lane. The previous Saturday Crewe had held Spurs 2-2. Les Allen scored five, Bobby Smith four, Cliff Jones three and Tommy Harmer (The "Charmer")one. Coleman and Llewellyn found the net for Crewe.
As the all-important season run-in approaches, this is a replay that neither side wanted, especially West Brom who are desperate for points and face the prospect of losing even more ground on the other teams in their relegation fight, as most of the Premiership programme continues this week-end. West Brom will miss at least another Premiership game this month, as Chelsea have the League Cup Final on February 27th.
Bryan Robson's side will also be missing Jonathan Greening for this match, as he serves a suspension. Greening was easily the most outstanding of the Baggies in the first match, and Spurs will be relieved to know of his absence. Jason Koumas might get a chance this week, but recent signings Kieran Richardson, and Richard Chaplow are both cup-tied. West Brom do have choices up front though, with Kanu, Earnshaw and Campbell available.
On balance, Spurs will have been quite glad to have achieved the away draw, and will definitely fancy their chances of making it to the Fifth Round, just a week after this match, at home against Nottingham Forest.
We have learnt today (Thursday) of Ledley King being a doubt for the game, and ironically, despite the high level of transfer activity by Spurs, this is an area where Martin Jol will have less options than in other positions. Michael Dawson will be Cup-Tied (as will Andy Reid), Anthony Gardner is still recovering from his broken nose (although I suspect will play if necessary), and of course Calum Davenport has been farmed out to Southampton for the rest of the season.
Goran Bunjevcevic or Thimothee Atouba would be the other possibilities to partner Naybet, who may Captain the side if Ledley doesn't make it. Nourredine already does plenty of talking to his team-mates anyway!
Last week's star Mido may be the main injury doubt, and I have to admit to not knowing whether or not he would be eligible, as he signed very shortly before the away tie. Hence I think Fredi Kanoute will return, alongside Jermain Defoe, who did not get on in England's dire friendly this week.
One thing I do know is that the club still has loads of tickets available, and they have informed me that tickets will be on sale on the day. So, all you Spurs fans, who normally get to home games, don't sit on your backsides in front of a TV somewhere, come and join in and create a winning atmosphere for Spurs to continue a positive Cup run.
Last week, I got the scoreline spot on, and again, I'll predict 3-1 to Spurs!
