A touch of magic from Robbie Keane won Spurs a point in the corresponding game last year

There are one or two new sounds around Villa Park this season. One is the buzz of excitement at the arrival of new manager Martin o'Neill, and new owner Randolph Lerner. The other is the purr of contentment at an unbeaten start to the Premiership season. This excellent start includes creditable draws at Asburton Grove, and Stamford Bridge.

O'Neill did not have the benefit of money to spend upon his arrival, and may be splashing out in January, but he has got the best out of those at his disposal, plus the shrewd acquisition of Stilian Petrov, who used to play for O'Neill at Celtic. Recently Chris Sutton was also acquired, as he was out of contract.

O'Neil has made full use of one of Villa's home grown players - Garbriel Agbonlahor - who did make his debut last season, but has played the full 90 minutes in every game so far this term. Agbonlahor has scored in the last two games too, and deserved his England Under-21 recognition. Villa have successful Reserve and Youth outfits, so O'Neill will have been studying them closely too.

This fixture last year was drawn 1-1, thanks to a late and classy equaliser by Robbie Keane. This game last year was said to be the first time that Spurs had fielded 11 full Internationals in a starting line-up in a league game.

Internationals are very much on the agenda this week, of course, and Spurs keeper Paul Robinson will be baited by the Holte End, but lauded even more than usual by his own supporters. Martin Jol has already expressed his support for Robbo after the disastrous second goal against Croatia, but England's Number One did win some much deserved support for his outstanding game until the blooper that he will have to re-live for ever and a day. (Not forgetting Gary Neville of course!)

Robbie Keane seems to have lost form for club and country at the moment, and he might a doubtful starter this week for form reasons. However, Jermain Defoe is listed as a doubt with a foot injury, as is Chimbonda, with a calf problem. Ledley King will train on Friday, and I expect him to play alongside Michael Dawson. Lennon, Malbranque and Tainio are longer term absentees. Spurs fans can't wait for Aaron Lennon's return to fitness.

The form book says there is no way you can support Spurs as likely winners of this game, and I am afraid to say that I think we will lose this one. However, with Mido and Ghaly in the goals for their country this week, perhaps one or other of them can spring a Villa Park surprise. Don't forget Berbatov too!

Did you know? Spurs and Villa met on this date in 1922, at White Hart Lane in front of 50,000 fans. Villa won 2-1 with goals from Ian Dickson and William Walker. The Spurs scorer was Jimmy Seed, who had played in Spurs 1921 winning Cup Final team. Other members of that team playing against Villa on this day 1922 included Jimmy Cantrell, Jimmy Dimmock, Arthur Grimsdell and Thomas Clay. Spurs had beaten Villa on the way to their 1921 success. Villa were the 1920 FA Cup winners.
