Spurs haven't won a Premier League game away to Fulham since March 2002, when Teddy Sheringham and Gus Poyet scored in a 2-0 result. Since then, as can be seen above, we have managed just one draw in five league games, illustrating yet another example of Spurs under-achievement down the years. We did win our last game at Craven Cottage though, with that superb 4-0 FA Cup win in February thanks to classic goals by Robbie Keane and Dimitar Berbatov, and two classy assists by Mido.
Lawrie Sanchez has well and truly been a new broom at Craven Cottage, importing no less than 11 players, and exporting 8. The high profile signings have included Sanchez's former International striker David Healey, scorer of that winner against England a couple of years ago. Chris Baird has been signed from Southampton, and another striker with great potential is Diomansy Kamara, from West Brom, who scored Fulham's winner at Shrewsbury on Tuesday night. Midfielder Steve Davis came from Aston Villa, as did defender Aaron Hughes. Former Spurs loanee Paul Konchesky is also amongst Sanchez's new boys, as is Kasey Keller, who might be needed in the possible absence of first choice keeper Antti Niemi.
Perhaps surprisingly, especially in view of his current injury crisis, Sanchez let Zat Knight go to Villa Park this week. The Fulham injury list includes Niemi, Christanvaal, Bouazza, Hughes, McBride and still Jimmy Bullard - signed from Wigan last year, but so sadly seriously injured at the start of the season.
Fulham fielded a decent side midweek, and I am sure will be very competitive on Saturday. The good news for Spurs fans is that Michael Dawson, Younes Kaboul, and Aaron Lennon are all in contention for a place this week, so our side could be considerably stronger than the one which performed so well last Sunday at Old Trafford.
Fulham have had some close results so far, losing to two late goals at The Emirates Stadium after holding on for so long to Healey's opener. Fulham were deprived of a late equaliser against Middlesbrough due to the officials' failure to spot a ball go over the line (sound familiar?) and each of their losses has been by one goal only. Like us, they have just three points and will be keen to double that tally before the break for Internationals. The loser of this game will be stuck in the bottom three for that two weeks.
The excellent team news for Spurs does not mean this will be an easy ride, as we saw in our first two games. Whoever plays needs to be sharp, give their all, and concentrate for the full 90 minutes. I'll take Spurs to win by the odd goal in three.
