Since losing 2-1 at White Hart Lane two weeks ago, Wisla Krakow have been on top league form, winning both their games, and keeping two clean sheets.First they beat Jagiellonia 2-0 away, and last Saturday beat Arka Gdynia 4-0. Cantoro and Boguski scored their goals in the first game, whilst Glowacki, Brozek (2) and Diaz scored the four goals in the second game. Wisla are still second in their league with 16 points from their 7 games. Striker Pawel Brozek is currently the leading scorer in the Polish league. He is not to be confused with midfielder Piotr Brozek, who took no part in the first leg, but has played in three league games.
Thus Spurs face a strong and confident team, in front of their own very passionate fans. No-one needs reminding of how tough a test this is going to be for a Spurs team at a very low ebb with regards to confidence and form. However, perhaps David Bentley can pass on some insight after his experience playing and scoring for Blackburn there two years ago. Blackburn won 2-1 and Bentley scored a late winner.
Several team selection factors are known. With Pavlyuchenko and Corluka ineligible, Fraizer Campbell will surely play a part, and after his exciting debut in the first leg, we must hope for more such commitment from the eleven men sent out by Ramos. One assumes that Ledley King has been saved for this match, which the club no doubt consider crucial to ensure some more financial return until Christmas. Hopefully Gareth bale will be fit enough to return, and I suspect the expertise of Luka Modric will be utilised on Thursday night.
I'll be travelling to Poland, but I fear that sod's law will lead to a 1-0 home victory and a passage to the next phase due to the away goals rule. As I will not be returning till Saturday, my review of the game will be delayed.
