It is another hot day for the remaining group matches at Stemwede. I had difficulty in finding the venue and arrived late into the Zurich v Mallorca which ended 4-1 to the Spaniards. I met Andy Porter also over from England for the tournament. Thankfully I got the Squad lists for the teams so will be able to put names to faces.
Spurs lined up with Vigouroux in goal behind Ball and Stewart with Barthram at right back and Smith on the left. Bentaleb and Gromelt started in the centre of midfield with Fredericks on the right flank and Munns on the left. Pritchard supported Zapata up front. This was a better balanced side than that for the first match.
Spurs defended the north end looking into the sun. Vigouroux made the first save of the game from Schindler who was played in on the right. The referee booked Schulze early for tugging Bentaleb which led to players looking for fouls while not committing many themselves.
Bazonzila fired wide before Pritchard also went wide at the other end. Spurs took the lead when Zapata flicked the ball behind him and was quickest to react getting clear on the right of the goal, drawing the keeper before squaring for Munns to drive low into the net.
Pritchard played in Fredericks down the right channel but the wideman fired wide.
Hannover made changes for the second half but it was Spurs who showed first. When the keeper failed to hold a corner, Pritchard drew a save from the edge of the area. Vigouroux saved from Rusteburg, and gave the ball to Ball, who then gave it away to Musliji who drew another save from the keeper.
Rusteburg fired wide before he was substituted after the ref had a strong word with him. Spurs increased their lead when Bentaleb collected a clearance just outside the area left of centre and drove in low past the keeper.
Hannover responded with an effort by Kasumovic that was just wide. Inglethorpe replaced Zapata with Ward allowing Fredericks to move up front. Pritchard was caught by a challenge in the centre circle that he was incensed about and lost his cool. The referee booked him and his team-mates tried to cool him down but Inglethorpe took him off replacing him with Waller-Lassen.
Spurs were now in control as they looked to see out the game. A long ball to the left found Fredericks in full flow and the winger came inside holding off the last man before beating the keeper with a low finish. There was just time for Gardiner to come in place of Munns before the final whistle.
This was a much better performance from Spurs which pushes them up to second in the group a goal behind Mallorca with each side having won a game each.
