Put your money on Adebayor to score!

It's almost uncharted territory for Wolves manager Mick McCarthy in his Premier League managerial career at this time! His team is unbeaten after three games and sits in fifth place in this still embryonic stage of the season, having beaten Blackburn away and Fulham at home, before deservedly taking a point at Villa Park two weeks ago. I say almost uncharted, because in fact Wolves started last season unbeaten in their first three games, but they won one and drew two. Wolves then lost 9 of their next 11 games to put them in the bottom three from which they only really escaped in the last four games, when they won 7 points. On the last day of last season, Wolves were grateful to us, when we beat Birmingham, although even if the Brummies had managed a draw they would have still gone down, due to their poor scoring record.

McCarthy is in his sixth season as Wolves manager, and his team are in their third consecutive season in the Premier League under his leadership. McCarthy was manager of Sunderland when they were relegated in 2002-03, and has now survived two struggles against the drop with Wolves.

McCarthy has bought shrewdly in the summer, securing the permanent transfer of Jamie O'Hara at an early stage, and buying Roger Johnson from Birmingham to firm up his defence. There have been other acquisitions, but these two seem to be the only ones to be set for the first choice team, which still includes the likes of Kevin Doyle, Matt Jarvis, Stephen Hunt and Karl Henry.

Jamie O'Hara is the latest in quite a long line of those who have played for both sides. Jamie will be playing against us for the first time as a senior professional, and no doubt will be relishing the chance to prove to Harry Redknapp that he should have given him more chances. Look out for him at free kicks and corners! Jamie made his debut for us at Portsmouth in December 2007, when he played an important part in Berbatov's winning goal against Harry Redknapp's Portsmouth, whose team of course was totally unrecognised from that which represents them these days. Jamie then had loan spells at Portsmouth and Wolves, when he had to sit out games against us. I wouldn't begrudge O'Hara a goal, as long as we win this game!

When we played at Molineux in March last season (Wolves 3 Spurs 3 - 6.03.2011), we had lost our previous game at Blackpool, and now we would relinquish another two points in our race for a Champions League place. We remembered the late Dean Richards that day, then enjoyed quite a game of football in which Doyle put the home side ahead, before Jermain Defoe scored two quick goals to give Spurs the lead. Doyle scored a penalty before half-time and Pavlyuchenko put Spurs back in the lead in the 48th minute. The lead was surrendered though with three minutes to go, when Fletcher scored with a header across Gomes' out-stretched right hand.

Although we beat Wolves in our home game last season, they did the double over us in 2009-10, and there is no room for complacency on our part, whilst there is a desperate need to get our season underway with points on the board. Emmanuel Adebayor will surely make his Spurs debut, as will Scott Parker in the middle, perhaps beside Luka Modric, who we hope will play with the same gusto as demonstrated in Croatia's game against Israel this week, when he scored a spectacular goal. Although Rafa van der Vaart has suggested he might have made a speedy recovery from his hamstring, there is probably going to be a vacancy beside or just behind Adebayor.

I fully expect Adebayor to score in this one, and would heartily recommend such a bet to those inclined towards the bookies. Obviously I hope for a Spurs win, but there is still a bit of a softness to Spurs when opponents break at speed, which could be exposed. We might have to be satisfied with a share of the points. I'll share my prediction with you though, and that's a 3-1 win for Spurs!
