It was a chilly evening when I finally got to Stevenage. Having got caught up in a traffic jam due to an accident on the A1 I arrived at half-time. There was a good sized crowd at the Lamex Stadium. Some like me had just arrived.
I saw Andy Porter who told me that Coulthirst had scored in the 6th minute and later missed a penalty before getting injured and being replaced by Ward in the 44th minute. The penalty was awarded for a foul on Munns.
Spurs lined up for the second half with Ekong and Stewart at the back with Barthram on the right and Modeste at left back. Munns and Ball were in the centre of midfield with McEvoy on the right wing and Ward on the left. Lameiras was behind Coulibaly up front.
Stevenage came out for the second half determined to have a go at the visitors, hassling players all over the pitch forcing errors and picking up loose balls to put the defence under pressure. Yusuff fired wide in their first attack and when they won a corner Allen headed over. Lameiras lost his cool with the hassling and kicked out to earn a yellow card.
Yusuff won a corner. When the corner was taken Pitharas back-heeled it in at the near post to draw level. Pitharas almost put them in front but for Granger turning his effort around the post. Lameiras played Coulibaly in to curl the ball into the net from the right only for the linesman to flag for offside.
Inglethorpe replaced Lameiras with Zapata to play alongside Coulibaly. Diack drove wide following a corner and Ball did the same from a Spurs corner. Ball did draw a save from Knight soon after before Yeboah replaced Ekong in defence. Zapata played a through ball for Coulibaly but Knight was out quickly to get there first.
By now it was all Spurs as they put the home side under pressure. Coulibaly headed over from a corner and Munns drew a save from the keeper, who also saved from Coulibaly. As the home side tired, McEvoy was getting crosses in from the right. With extra time beckoning Barthram got down the left and crossed for Coulibaly to head the winner.
I understand that Spurs were on top in the first half, so Stevenage knocked them out of their stride at the start of the second half, before the effort took its toll and the visitors resumed control.
Spurs are away to Cardiff City in the next round. The game is provisionally set for the 21st January.
