Spurs came to this match with a less experienced squad than for last week's game at Milton Keynes because Cambridge are a non-league team. Cambridge City have had to leave their ground to share with Histon which, being a recent move, did not show up on their website. Luckily I had time to find the new venue. The match was advertised as a testimonial for a player and a manager who were given a guard of honour by the teams before the match.

Spurs lined up with Miles in goal behind Ball and Stewart at the back with Fredericks at right back and Ward on the left. There was no holding midfield player as such with Bentaleb, Lameiras and Falque all dropping when needed. Coulthirst led the line with McEvoy and Ceballos alongside him.

Spurs attacked the southern end in the first half and quickly showed their adventurous style. Bentaleb fired wide from the edge of the area before Beasant fired wide from a Beech pass. Ceballos drove over before Coulthirst won a corner with low drive. Lameiras played in Coulthirst through the left channel for a shot that flew over.

Beasant got through to draw a save from Miles before Lameiras combined with Falque for Bentaleb to fire wide.Spurs went in front when Ceballos cut inside before laying the ball off for Bentaleb to drill it low into the net from twenty yards.

Miles saved from Beasant again before Spurs increased their lead when Falque drove low from the edge of the area, after a pass from Coulthirst. Bentaleb fired over before the end of the half.

Spurs made four changes at the beginning of the second half. Vigouroux went in goal. Stewart was replaced by Alex McQueen. McEneff came on for Bentaleb and McEvoy was replaced by Darren McQueen up front.

Coulthirst robbed a defender and fed Ceballos for an effort that Barrett saved. Fredericks picked up a clearance from a corner and smashed it in to the goal from fully thirty yards for 3-0.

First Falque and then Ceballos fired over in quick succession before City fired wide. Falque forced two saves in a minute, before getting a touch to score from Coulthirst's drilled cross for his second goal.

Cambridge made the last of their substitutions before conceding a fifth goal when Ceballos curled one in from the edge of the area. Vigouroux saved from Lewis for a corner, from which he saved Omango's close range effort. Darren McQueen's snap shot was saved before Bacon had the last chance which he fired wide.

This was a good work out for the squad with their passing beginning to reach their targets, and good movement. McEvoy showed some good play getting down the flanks and crossing during the first half. All looks well for the opening fixture of the U-21 league on Friday evening in Aldershot when they play Chelsea. Next week there is also another Spurs XI friendly at Chelmsford Town.
