Yesterday's draw against Club Brugge meant that Spurs had to face the best team in the tournament instead of second place Nordjaelland. Last year both teams were in Spurs' group when they drew with the Brazilians and beat the Danes 4-0. Paranaesne went on to win the tournament beating West Ham in the final.

Spurs lined up with Glover behind Maghoma and Carter-Vickers with Walker-Peters at right back and Amos on the left. They were supposed to have had a midfield diamond formation with Walkes at the base but while Georgiou was on the left, and Pritchard and Stylianides occupied the centre, the right side was covered by Harrison dropping off and Walker-Peters getting forward leaving Loft up front on his own for most of the time.

As expected, the game started with both sides contesting the midfield with both Georgiou and Walker-Peters getting down the flanks causing Atletico problems they were not used to. They still had the first chance when Glover saved the header by Feitosa De Freitas from a free kick. Another free kick was driven wide by Damasceno.

Loft fired wide and Georgiou forced a save before Evangelista was booked for a foul on Loft. Paranaesne scored from a quick break down the right and when the cross was not cleared, Brugin fired home. Damasceno was booked trying to stop Georgiou and the Brazilian bench responded by replacing Evangelista with Quintanilha to mark the Spurs winger. From the free kick Maghoma headed wide. In added time at the end of the half Da Cruz saw his drive go for a corner.

There were no changes for the start of the second period which saw Paranaesne sitting back on their lead looking to break. Spurs made a change in response by replacing Walkes with Azzaoui to work the right flank. The Brazilians broke down the right and crossed to the far post where Damasceno scored with a shot that went in off the far post.

Spurs replaced Pritchard with Goddard as they pushed forward looking for a goal, pushing the Brazilians back into their own half. Spurs could not break them down in the last five minutes and could have conceded again when Da Cruz fired over.

Spurs now go into the 3rd/4th play off where they will play Nordjaelland who lost 3-1 to Genk in the other semi-final.
