Pochettino must win this one!

Almost every Premier League game we play these days seems to have an agenda, and right now, this one has as big an agenda as any! Who would have guessed that after losing their manager; four of their key players; plus one protege snapped up by Arsene Wenger, Southampton would come to White Hart Lane not only above Tottenham, but in great form, with four consecutive league wins and a deserved second place in the table after 6 games?

Spurs have not won a league game in four matches, and since August, when they beat QPR 4-0. Apart from the Capital One Cup win over Nottingham Forest (and that only came with a late flourish), Pochettino's side have failed to win any other of their seven matches in all competitions, and were lucky to escape with a draw in Thursday night's Europa League game.

In my opinion, this is a game that Pochettino must win. Otherwise, questions will surely start to be asked in the house. Spurs fans always wonder whether or not their chairman has made the right appointment anyway, but perhaps Mr Levy will have to once again question his judgement after a poor result, which is all too possible.

Home fans want to be thrilled as well as entertained. The poor crowd last night is surely a judgement upon the quality of football currently being served up by our beloved Tottenham Hotspur. It hasn't been that good.

Fans and pundits alike have commented about the dearth of quality in our strikers and their ability to score. Adebayor will probably start on Sunday, but he failed to impress when he came on last night, and he's managed one goal so far in 6 league starts. If Pochettino does persist with the 4-2-3-1, perhaps one of those three behind the striker needs to be Harry Kane. Mind you, Chadli is our top scorer, and has been doing okay. I'd even be inclined to start with Soldado or Kane, rather than Adebayor. Two strikers anybody?

The Spurs starting line-up is all too predictable, as is their style of play. I said at the start of the season I was feeling under-whelmed, and I'm not feeling any better now. If Spurs want to fill that new stadium, they are going to have to present more stylish, entertaining, and winning football.

When Lovren, Lallana and Lambert went to Liverpool, and Luke Shaw went to Manchester United, I was one of those who felt that Southampton had been decimated, and that they would struggle. However, their appointment as manager was Ronald Koeman, who led Feyenoord over the last couple of seasons, and has got to grips with the Premier League after a shaky start at Anfield, and at home to West Brom.

Koeman has brought with him from Feyenoord 29 year old Italian Graziano Pelle (pronounced Peller and not Pellay).Pelle has already scored 4 league goals, and one in the League Cup. He scored 50 league goals for Feyenoord over the last two seasons in 57 league games.

Also making his mark for the "Saints" is Serbian Dusan Tadic, signed from Twente, and who has been playing in Holland for four seasons. Former Spurs target Morgan Schneiderlin has settled and played all 6 Premier League games, scoring twice in their win at West Ham, and also against Newcastle.

This could be Southampton's biggest test since that opening day defeat at Anfield. They did beat Arsenal in the League Cup at The Emirates, with full back Nathan Clyne scoring a wonder goal, and whatever happens on Sunday, they will still be above us.

Any dropped points for Spurs will leave me very pessimistic about the immediate future, with our first game after the break at Man City. A win is vital for every reason you care to name. I'm not too optimistic, as you might have guessed, but I'll take Spurs to edge it 2-1.

Sunday's match referee will be Mike Jones, who hasn't had charge of a Spurs game since we lost 1-0 at home to Fulham in March 2013. That's not a good omen then!

· Did you know? - We won both games against Southampton last season 3-2. Adebayor, who had been re-instated by Tim Sherwood, scored twice at St. Mary's in December, and Christian Eriksen scored twice in the home game. Only a late, late Sigurdsson goal gave us all three points in the home game.

· 10 years ago this week, a Noe Pamarot goal gave us all three points at Goodison Park
