Spurs travelled to Staines Town where Chelsea Ladies play their games instead of the Recreation ground in Aldershot because the game was being shown on BT Sports. It was also moved from Friday to fit the TV schedule. This was the second time Spurs have been live on TV. The other occasion was when they visited Norwich at Carrow Road in a game they lost 3-1. With so many players out on loan, Spurs brought back Walker-Peters, Carter-Vickers, and Amos from the Bellinzona tournament before their last game there. After two defeats Spurs had slipped to sixth in the table, two places above todays hosts.

Spurs lined up with McGee in goal behind Carter-Vickers and Lesniak with Yedlin at right back and McQueen on the left. Amos and Winks lined up in front of the back four with McEvoy on the right of midfield with Ceballos on the left and Miller central behind Akindayini up front. An interesting point I picked up from the Chelsea reporter next to me was that Chelsea were starting a game for the first time with an all English eleven.

Spurs defended the North end in the first half which saw Akindayini booked in the first minute for a late tackle on Clarke-Salter. The referee was quick to reach for his card on this occasion but slow on other mis-timed tackles from the home side during the game until late on.

Colkett hit a free kick over after McQueen fouled Houghton. Chelsea put Spurs under pressure with Loftus Cheek firing wide for a corner and Solanke also wide before Miller had an effort go wide. Beeney had to make the first save of the game when Akindayini was sent through with Solanke drawing a save from McGee a minute later.

Brown had two efforts, one a header which flew wide from a cross by Mitchell, who had an effort of his own saved by McGee. Mitchell then provided a cross for Colkett to head wide before Spurs came close to scoring. Winks played in Akindayini for a chance that Beeney saved with his legs and Yedlin followed up only to see Aina clear off the line for a corner. From the corner Chelsea cleared to Mitchell who made a break for the Spurs goal only to be pulled back by Winks who went into the ref's book.

Chelsea lost Loftus Cheek to injury with Boga coming on in his place as they continued to press. McGee saved from Brown and in added time he saved from Boga when put through by Solanke.

There were no changes for the start of the second half which saw Spurs up their game from the off. McEvoy went down the right from the kick off pulling his cross back for Ceballos only to see his shot blocked by Miller. Amos tried his luck from range but was wide. Ceballos collected the ball; came inside, and whipped in a shot that Beeney could not hold and watched as the ball spun slowly off the right post.

Spurs kept the pressure on with Winks playing in Akindayini to draw a save from the keeper before Ceballos fired over. Ceballos crossed to the far post for McEvoy to force a save from Beeney. Chelsea began to get back into the game when Boga fired wide and Mitchell drew a save from Dabo's cross. Ceballos pulled up and had treatment before continuing for a short time before being replaced by Walker-Peters while Chelsea replaced the dangerous Mitchell.

McQueen had a weak effort saved by Beeney. Brown flicked on for Solanke to fire wide before Solanke returned the favour by crossing for Brown to fire wide. The ref booked Dasilva for pulling back McEvoy as he got down the right again. The home side then sent on their top scorer Abraham as a last move to win the game as they pushed for a goal. Amos was booked for preventing a break throught the middle.

When Walker-Peters was caught late by Aina the referee allowed play to continue as McQueen went into the area but Clarke-Salter made a saving tackle. The ref did remember to book Aina for the foul. As the game went into added time both sides had chances to win it. Winks played in McEvoy on the right but his effort hit the side netting. Dabo crossed for Brown to make contact with a diving header which McGee saved, diving to his right. Abraham, attacking the far post, got his foot to the ball only to see McGee push it onto the crossbar for a corner. Spurs cleared the corner before the final whistle.

This was a tough game with both defences on top, restricting goal chances. Spurs became the first team this season to stop Chelsea from scoring. Credit has to go to Carter-Vickers who prevented Abraham scoring in their last three meetings. Abraham has over 50 goals this season and Solanke has passed 30, so along with his defensive partner Lesniak it was quite a result. I should not, of course, forget McGee as the last line of defence.

The win moves Spurs up to third in the table as the best of four clubs on 25 points while Chelsea remain in 8th on 22 points with two games in hand. Spurs next game is against second placed Liverpool at WHL on the 17th April. Liverpool have two games before that match to open a gap between the two sides beginning with Fulham tomorrow.
