Flag day at Tottenham

By the time we play Southampton tomorrow lunchtime, Leicester will have been presented with the Premier League trophy in front of their delirious fans. For Spurs the faint chance of the title was ended at Chelsea on Monday night, but there is still second place to be secured which will happen with one win either against Southampton, or next week at Newcastle.

The "Battle of Stamford Bridge" has led to repercussions for Spurs, who now have to manage without the suspended Mousa Dembele and Dele Alli. Dembele was given a 6-match ban by the FA after Monday night's "eye-gouging" incident, so we will be without him for the first four games next season as well as the remainder of this campaign. Alli has to serve the second of his three match ban. I'm guessing that Ryan Mason will get Dembele's place, and that Son Heung-min will play again tomorrow.

Stop press news from Spurs is that both Toby Alderweireld and Danny Rose passed late fitness tets today (Saturday), and are fit for selection, despite the knocks they took on Monday night. Southampton have no injury concerns.

The relegation battle will not have been decided by Saturday's games, as Norwich, Sunderland and Newcastle will probably take that fight to the last day. There is also a battle to be resolved below us for the other Champions League places and qualification for The Europa League.

These and other games offer some great online betting action if you’re looking to place a wager.

Southampton are very much involved in the race for Europe, with seventh place a possible beneficiary if Manchester United beat Crystal Palace in the FA Cup Final. Ronald Koeman will have his eyes set upon a maximum six points from "The Saints"' last two games against us, and at home to Palace next week.

Last week, Southampton saw off a Manchester City side deliberately weakened by outgoing manager Manuel Pelligrini, who had his eyes on a Champions League Final place. That hope has not come to fruition, and now City have Man Utd and West Ham on their tails. City also face Arsenal after we play tomorrow. Both those teams seek the final automatic Champions League place. A win for City would be enough to get us second place barring a major shift in our 9-goal superior goal difference, as City are 6 points behind us with two games to play. Arsenal are three points and fourteen goals worse off than us going into the week-end.

Spurs have declared tomorrow a flag day, with plenty of flags being distributed around the stadium. They have also invited fans to bring their own flags, subject to safety conditions. A celebration of our achievement in the Premier League this season is guaranteed, with plenty of highlights to savour, and deserved praise for the players after the game. Those players will be keen to applaud their loyal fans too.

Due to the recent announcement that the north-east corner of the present stadium will have to be closed to allow for fast-tracking of the new stadium building process, tomorrow will be my last game in the seat I have occupied for nearly 20 years. I first had a season ticket in the North Stand for the 94-95 season, before we spent one year in the South Stand whilst the North Stand was modernised. Hopefully my forced re-location will be to a decent position in the ground. I wait with bated breath for news of my seat for one season before we all find our place in the new stadium in 2018-19.

Those enforced absences will make the task of winning difficult for Spurs, but a joyous and vocal crowd, and the opportunity to play with a degree of freedom now we have secured champions League should make this an entertaining game. I'm predicting a 2-0 win for my beloved Spurs!

Referee Jon Moss refereed our first game this season, and incidentally, our last game of last season. Here he is, in charge of our penultimate game. Mr. Moss generally gets a mixed reception wherever he goes. His last Spurs game was our 1-1 draw at Anfield last month.

Did you know? - Spurs played Southampton at home on the last day of the 1997-98 season, having dramatically ensured their Premier League status the previous week at Selhurst Park with a 6-2 win against Wimbledon. The match was drawn 1-1, with Jurgen Klinsmann scoring a farewell goal. Gary Mabbutt made his final Spurs appearance.
