Spurs second game in this tournament saw them entertain the German side FC Schalke who beat Everton in their last game. This was their last group match having lost to Porto in their first game. Spurs lost to Everton in their first match and will play Porto just before Christmas in their last game. The team wore black armbands in memory of the sister of Zenon Stylianides who passed away last week.

Spurs lined up with McGee in goal behind Veljkovic and Carter-Vickers with Walker-Peters at right back and Tangana on the left. Lesniak and Amos sat in front of them with Walkes behind Harrison with McEvoy on his right and Georgiou on his left. McEvoy has returned from his loan spell at Stevenage and Tangana was making his first appearance at this level. McGee was also getting in a little game time before the Europa League game on Thursday.

Spurs kicked off the first half attacking the South end and soon showed good movement down the flanks. An early corner produced a header from Veljkovic that was saved. The Germans were not happy with the officials giving them plenty of stick when they were pulled up or when they thought they had been fouled. There were few chances in the first half which was played mainly in the visitors' part of the field.

Schalke won a free kick which was hit by Neubauer and saved by McGee who threw it out to Georgiou. The winger managed to hold off his marker and drive in a shot which was saved by Welklo at his near post. McEvoy and Walkes exchanged passes before the winger put over a cross. The keeper got a hand to as it came to Amos who had a free header into the net for the opening goal. The Germans defended doggedly with a few dicey challenges. Near the end of the half a short corner on the left saw the ball reach Veljkovic at the far post. His header was cleared off the line to keep the score at half time 1-0.

Glover replaced McGee for the start of the second half which saw the visitors also change their keeper not long after but in different circumstances. When Harrison closed down Welklo the keeper hit out and was shown what looked like a yellow card. The keeper then kicked the ball at the referee who showed him a second yellow which meant the Schalke coach had to take off Geissler for the sub keeper Schilder.

Spurs won a penalty when Georgiou was fouled by Boyamba chasing an over-hit cross from the right. Harrison stepped up to beat the keeper, scoring to the right. Harrison almost scored with a header from Georgiou but for a great save by Schilder.

Boyamba was taken off and replaced by Machtemes who showed pace down the right. He provided the square ball to Pick, who scored with a low drive inside Glover's right post. After Amos had been booked for a foul he was taken off and replaced by Miller.

Walker-Peters made one of his trademark runs getting into the area and swapped passes with Harrison, but was pulled up befor he could shoot as the striker was ruled offside. Another cross from the right was cleared out to Tangana on the left and he returned the ball into the goalmouth for Harrison to head home unchallenged to regain Spurs' two goal lead.

Another Walker-Peters run saw him get off his shot which was blocked. Tangana was booked for pulling back Machtemes, and was taken off and replaced by Bennetts who worked the left flank with Georgiou dropping to full back. Bennetts got round the back with his first run and linked well with Georgiou. Schalke continued to push forward looking for another goal with Neubauer and Pick going close but Spurs saw out the game to take the points.

All four teams in our group now have three points from one win apiece. Everton are top thanks to the 4-1 win over Spurs from two games. Porto are second having beaten Schalke in their only game so far. Spurs are next with Schalke bottom having played all their games. Everton will play Porto later this month while Spurs will then know what is needed when they face Porto in December at Adams Park. The top two teams go into the next round in the New Year.
