Having drawn in Spain, Spurs had hopes of improving on that result in the reverse fixture. England's U-17 World Cup win over Spain in India last week had included Tashan Oakley-Boothe with TJ Eyoma an unused substitute, while Real had a strong contingent in the Spanish team. This had been used to explain Real not beating Spurs in the match at the Alfredo Di Stefano stadium. There was a low setting sun in the first half which shone in the eyes of the spectators before the floodlights kicked in.

Spurs lined up with Austin in goal behind Tanganga and Lyons-Foster with the returning Eyoma at right back and Bennetts on the left. Marsh and Skipp sat in front of them with Edwards ahead of them flanked by Roles on the right and Shashoua on the left in support of Sterling up front. Madrid included Cesar in the starting line-up with four other members of the Spain U-17 World Cup squad on the bench.

Spurs defended the West end in the first half which saw early pressure from the visitors in an open game. Bennetts got to the line on the left pulling the ball back for Shashoua to fire over. Tanganga headed a corner wide before Martin struck the left post with a low drive from outside the area and Perez put the rebound over.

Roles won a corner when his effort was deflected wide. From the corner Tanganga headed wide at the far post. Madrid went ahead when a free kick from the left was half cleared to Cesar who drove in. The Spurs defender Tanganga - having previously shown his ability in the air - was unmarked at another set piece to score the equaliser. Bennetts had won a free kick near the corner when Alberto had caught him from behind. Shashoua took the kick and Tanganga (jumping with Fernandez) headed home.

Roles was booked for leading with his arm at another corner, catching De La Fuente, who had to have treatmant for a cut lip. Roles found himself on the receiving end of a late diving tackle by Govea who also went into the ref's book before half-time.

There were no changes for the start of the second half which saw Spurs take the lead. In the first minute Roles ran onto a loose ball and played it forward for Sterling who was blocked for a foul. Roles took the kick quickly, catching out the Madrid defence. Zarate fouled Sterling as he was onto the ball to concede a penalty. Edwards stepped up to send Fernandez the wrong way, hitting the ball to the right.

Madrid stepped up the pace in response with Garcia firing over following a corner. Vacas, who had such an influence in Real's recovery in the away game, was introduced. Alberto fired wide and Austin saved from Perez. The increased pressure told when Martin scored with a low drive from Vacas's pass. With the scores level the game became more end to end as Roles cross/shot was too high.

De La Fuente drew a save from Austin and Cesar headed wide from Alberto's cross before Martin fired over from a cross by Vacas. Shashoua sent Edwards away to draw a save from Fernandez with Roles' follow up half-blocked. Cesar drew another save before Martin struck the post again from a free kick.

Spurs' first change saw Roles replaced by Hinds who took up the left back position allowing Bennetts to move forward. Sterling was booked when he won the ball off Martin, for catching his opponent's leg. Spurs went in front again when Skipp won the ball high up and laid off to Edwards who slipped Sterling in to fire home across Fernandez inside the far post.

Garcia laid the ball off to Martin to fire over before Spurs made their second change. Maghoma came on for Edwards who gave the captain's armband to Tanganga. Maghoma's first act was to dive in late on Martin and get a booking. His next was to win the ball in the right back postion and try to beat Fernandez with a 75 yard attempt. As the game went into added time Alberto fired over and as Spurs closed out the game Griffiths replaced Sterling.

The game was more even than the previous meeting which had been a game of two halves. The win moved Spurs briefly to the top of the group. Dortmund beat APOEL 5-0 to leapfrog Spurs two hours later. Spurs travel to Dortmund next for a top of the table clash on the 21st November. Spurs beat the Germans 4-0 in their opening game at Hotspur Way, but the Dortmund youngsters have won all three games since.
