Spurs go to Austria without key players

I suspect there is a mixture of choice and requirement about this, but without doubt Spurs are travelling to Austria without key players. Toby Alderweireld was seen in training today (Wednesday) but Jose does not think he will be ready before Sunday. it is good news that Toby will be fit for the Arsenal game. it is no surprise that Erik Lamela is still absent, and he is not expected to be available until after the Arsenal game.

Of more concern is the fact that Harry Kane, Sergio Reguilon and Carlos Vinicius did not train and will not play tomorrow. Jose hinted that all three might be available for the weekend, although he would not disclose the injury to Harry Kane.

The biggest concern regarding tomorrow is that Vinicius cannot play. He is the one player of those mentioned above that we would expect to start. He also scored two goals last week. The team who beat LASK 3-0 on matchday one was Hart; Doherty, Sanchez, Davies (Capt), Reguilon; Hojbjerg (sub Sissoko), Winks; Lucas Moura (sub Lo Celso), Bale (sub Son), Lamela (sub Dele) and Vinicius (sub Clarke). Therefore at least three changes will be required with perhaps Japhet Tanganga playing next to Sanchez, and Ben Davies at left back. Dele must be due a start and presumably Gareth Bale and Lucas Moura will also start.

Don't panic! Jose has options. He won't be under-estimating LASK who did what we couldn't manage and beat Antwerp 1-0 away, although they lost 2-0 at home to the Belgian side. Spurs only need a point tomorrow to be assured of qualification to the Round of 32, because of what would be our superior head to head status with LASK, but Jose will surely want to win both his remaining games to top the group and have a favourable status in that Round of 32 draw.

A regular scorer for LASK since we last met has been 22-year-old German-born Johannes Eggestein. He's a German under-21 International and has scored 6 goals in all this season, five of them since the Spurs game. Eggestein was a second half sub for that game when the Austrian side was already 2-0 down. He scored twice in LASK'S last game - a 3-0 home win against SCR Altach. Altach are one off the bottom of the 12-team Austrian table. LASK are second - two points behind Salzburg. Salzburg have three of the top four scorers in their league, with Koita top of the pops with 10 league goals. Eggestein is LASK'S only representative in the top 21 players, and has 4 league goals to his name.

This is an early game on tomorrow night's schedule and kicks off at 5.55pm UK time. I might write an article later this week about my predictions, but suffice to say I am having an awful time in my prediction league. That does not include these Europa League games, and I'll go for a two goal win tomorrow.

Referee Pawel Raczkowski and his on-field team are from Poland. Mr. Raczkowski is another new face to us. Recent engagements for this referee have been Belgium v Iceland in the Nations League and Liverpool v Midtylland in the Champions League.
