Spurs Odyssey Reviews the Premiership Season
for 2009-2010 - Match 19

Why shouldn't we finish in the top four?

Most teams, including Spurs, have reached the half-way point in the season and can now formulate their realistic and acheivable targets for the remainder of the season.

In our case, we are on target for a 68 point haul, which would not have been quite enough for the top four last season, but would have won fifth easily. However, in the first half of this season, Spurs have played three of the current top four away from home, and can therefore look forward to those teams at home. We have also played all four of our London Derby games this season away from home. Those matches brought only one win (at West Ham), and perhaps we can look forward to better results in the run-in, starting tomorrow against The Hammers!

We also had a couple of banana skins, such as Stoke and Wolves at home, and also dropped points when we deserved or should have had more (Everton and Villa away). With Luka Modric back to his best and a fitter centre-half or two, there is every reason why Spurs can make it into the top four and stay there till the end of the season. Aston Villa have a tricky home game against Liverpool on Tuesday, and as long as we start with a win against West Ham tomorrow, we could start the New Year in that elusive top four! Bring it on!
