How our England boys did last week-end
Unsurprisingly, Harry Kane was voted the Spurs Odyssey man of the match against Leicester, and was the one shining light in a team performance where defence was almost an alien concept to the Spurs players.
On Saturday, Harry became the Premier League's top goal scorer, but Diego Costa's 19th league goal of the season for Chelsea at Hull on Sunday put him back on top, but only level with our Harry.
I can reveal that Kane is the Spurs player of the month for the second consecutive month. He must be in line for a first senior start tomorrow night in England's Euro 2016 qualifier against Lithuania.
I wrote after our 3-0 defeat at Old Trafford on March 15th that I would be amazed if Kyle Walker and Andros Townsend were selected by Roy Hodgson for International duty. Well, they were, and I remain somewhat astounded, because they have been voted two of our worst performers in our last two games, in which we have conceded 6 goals. Indeed, Walker has scored lowest, with 2.9 against United, and almost bottom of the pile with only 4 out of 10 against Leicester.
Only Nacer Chadli was marked less than Walker on Saturday, and a big factor must have been his dive in the penalty area which earnt him a booking.
Danny Rose, who sadly has had to pull out of the England squad, having been called up as a late replacement for Luke Shaw, has been viewed as our best defender (apart from Lloris) is his last five appearances. Rose was second, only to Kane, over the course of March, of our outfield players.
Ryan Mason, who was also a late call-up, this time for Lallana, has been graded moderately in our last two performances, but, like Kane, he has had an impactive season, and deserves great credit for his recogition at senior International level. 6 years ago, Kane and Mason were playing and scoring together for Spurs Under-18's side. It would be great to see them both wearing the England shirt tomorrow!
Jeffrey Schlupp's own goal was the first scored for spurs this season. We had five own goals in our favour in last season's Premier League programme.
Spurs loanee Aaron Lennon scored his first goal since December 2013, but this time for Everton in their 2-1 win at Loftus Road. Spurs never lost when Lennon scored, and so far the same can be said of Everton!
