Spurs Odyssey Reviews the Premiership Season
for 2014-2015 - Match 4

Eriksen was your man of the match at Sunderland

Christian Eriksen ("He's our number 23"!) was your man of the match in Saturday's 2-2 draw at The Stadium of Light. Honourable mentions go to fellow midfielders Erik Lamela, Mousa Dembele and Nacer Chadli, all of whom finished on 6.9. Eriksen scored 7.1.

Harry Kane paid the penalty for that own goal, but he is one of the players who have been voted man of the match already this season. He will bounce back - possibly in Belgrade on Thursday.

It's 10 meetings now since Spurs lost a game to Sunderland, and these were the first points surrendered in five games, as we did the double over this opposition in the last two seasons.

In my match report, I said I couldn't remember going to The Stadium of Light in September. We have played there once in September, but that was a midweek game, which we won 2-1, with another Christian (Ziege) getting on the score-sheet with an audacious long range cross - or was it a shot? Gus Poyet and his assistant at Sunderland, Mauricio Taricco played in Spurs colours that night. I was there! (Sunderland 1 Spurs 2 - 19.09.01)
