The benefits of a survey
Thanks as always to those who took part in the Spurs Odyssey survey after Wednesday night's home defeat against Leicester.
The spursometer was introduced back in November, 2000, but in its early days was formulated from my own observations and those of anyone with me after the game. Usually, that was my son Greg!
Under the system we used in "the old days", I can tell you that Dele Alli would have got the man of the match vote for this game. However, the average of the votes of over 140 respondents is far more scientific, and goalkeeper and Captain Hugo Lloris got your vote. Perhaps it was not purely for his first half save from Leicester midfielder Daniel Drinkwater, but also for his inspiring captaincy. Hugo received great cheers when he advanced some 40 yards out of his goal to urge on his team-mates at a Spurs corner.
Looking at the survey responses in detail, I have been re-assured to find that I was one of 10% of voters who gave Dele Alli 8 out of 10. Erik Lamela got the same response. Perhaps I wasn't so out of kilter with my assessment.
Whilst I gave referee Lee Mason a moderate 6 out ofo 10, I also respect the masses who clearly regard him as one of our worst referees, awarding him an average of 4.2. He's not quite the worst we've seen this season, but clearly most of you hope we don't have him in charge of a Spurs game for another 13 months. (That was the gap since he last officiated Tottenham).
Rest assured then, that there will be another chance for you all to cast your votes and express your views after tomorrow's game against Sunderland, by which time, Spurs will have dusted themselves down and given the "Mackems" a good thrashing!
Here's hoping!
