It's not all bad news for Spurs
It's not all bad news for Spurs, despite the lack of a win after the three opening games, and the fact that we sit above the bottom four only because of goal difference.
Dele Alli (still to start his first game for Spurs) scored his first Premier League goal in the 81st minute, thus ensuring a memorable start to his Spurs career. Dele (who scored 16 goals in 39 league games for MK Dons last season) became our youngest Premier League scorer (19 years and 132 days) since Gareth Bale (18 years 60 days) scored in a home defeat to Arsenal in September, 2007.
Let's hope Dele's goal is the first of many for us this season, and for many seasons to come! For his goal, and more endeavour (and not a little skill!) shown than most of his colleagues before he came on, Alli was voted the Spurs man of the match.
Despite not scoring, Harry Kane did test goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, and he also showed creative and battling skills in the final third, feeding the ball to Chadli who got the assist for Alli's header.
Hugo Lloris got the highest score of the players who spent 90 minutes on the pitch, with Kane and Ryan Mason getting honourable mentions. Sadly, Erik Lamela scored less than 4 out of 10 for the seond consecutive game. Even those, like me, who had shown a lot off patience with our club record signing, are losing faith in his ability to shine now. I am sure he will be staying though, so we can only hope improvement is forthcoming.
Alex Pritchard was awarded and signed a new 4 year contract last week, but there was no sign of him in the 18 at Leicester. I am sure he is going to get plenty of League Cup and Europa League football, along with opportunities to break into the Premier League team. We've also got Clinton N'Jie to come, and wait to see what the remainder of the transfer window will bring.
It has been pointed out to me that whilst Andre Villas-Boas was the last Spurs coach not to win in his first three games (2012-13), he did win his fourth game (3-1 away to Reading), and also only just missed out on a Champions league place. Let's hope Mauricio Pochettino can beat Everton at home this Saturday!
Did you know? - In beating Everton on Sunday, Man City equalled their record run of consecutive wins (9) - last achieved in 1912. They have to beat Watford at home to create a new record on Saturday. That record of 1912 also took place at the end of one season and at the beginning of another. Spurs were the first of City's victims on 8th April 1912 in a 2-0 defeat at White Hart Lane. We were the third victims of their current run in another home defeat (0-1) in May this year.
