Who would have believed it?
Who would have believed it if:-
1. Spurs put four goals past the league leaders - Manchester City?
The last time we managed to put four goals past them was at Maine Road in a famous 4-2 FA Cup quarter-final victory in 1993, when the fabulous Nayim scored a hat-trick, and a line of Police horses was required across the pitch to keep order.
As mentioned in my match report, the last time we scored 4 in a league game against City was in 1962. That was also a September game (September 1st), when we won 4-2 at The Lane with goals from Danny Blanchflower (penalty), Cliff Jones, Jimmy Greaves and Terry Medwin. Why, it was so long ago that Bert Trautmann was in goal for City!
2. Erik Lamela was voted man of the match for Spurs?
Erik has to share the Spurs Odyssey vote with Eric Dier, but it was clearly Lamela's best performance of the season, following another excellent effort last week against Crystal Palace. Erik had two man of the match performances early last season (against AEL Limassol and QPR), and this was definitely his best game for us since that 4-0 win over QPR. Long may his resurgence continue!
3. Spurs would get the rub of the green regarding offside decisions?
It makes a nice change, doesn't it. Even if you accept that three of the goals were offside (and Kyle Walker's offside was emphatically not marginal), Spurs still won 2-0 on merit. Long may good fortune favour us!
4. Spurs would climb to fifth (sixth following Everton's win last night) after their hesitant start (results-wise) to the season. Three wins on the trot means a lot at any time of the season, but it is great to be at the right end of the table, currently 8 places above Chelsea, who are four points behind in 14th place. Come to think about it, who would have believed that Chelsea would be the Premier League's bottom London club after seven games?
Who would believe it if Spurs got their eighth consecutive win over Swansea on Sunday and their fourth consecutive away win at The Liberty Stadium. That could happen, you know.
