Spurs Odyssey Reviews the Premier League Season for 2016-2017 - Matchday 30
|
Make that "A great week-end for Spurs!"
My Burnley match report was headed "A great day for Spurs!", and that great day turned into a great week-end as Arsenal and Manchester City drew 2-2, meaning that one of our challengers for the title (Yes, we are most definitely in the title race), and one of our challengers for a top four place both lost two points. That result made it most emphatically a great week-end for Spurs as remain three points ahead of Liverpool and four points ahead of Man City. With City playing at Stamford Bridge whilst we are at Swansea tomorrow, it could be a another great occasion for Spurs!
Not only did Eric Dier score his first Premier League goal since December 2015, but he also won the Spurs Odyssey man of the match vote for the first time this season, and in fact since September 2015. Since coming to Spurs, Eric has become an England regular, where he generally plays in front of the back four, and that's where he moved to for Pochettino in the second half at Burnley, when he scored. Eric may be required there tomorrow at Swansea, although Victor Wanyama is going to be assessed for that game. Eric edged out substitute Mousa Dembele and Toby Alderweireld in Saturday's vote. Dembele will no doubt be starting tomorrow.
Spurs now have seven more points than they had after 29 games last season, and from this position it would be a big disappointment if they did not beat their Premier League points record total of 72, and if they did not remain in the top four. We are currently 9 points above fifth placed United and 11 above Arsenal.
