Are you good with numbers?
Are you good with numbers? I ask because they just keep mounting up these days in "Spurs Land", and all for good reasons.
Mousa Dembele was voted man of the match unanimously this week; on Sky TV; on the Tottenham Hotspur official website, and here on Spurs Odssey. Rather surprisingly, it was the first time here on the website that Mousa has won the vote this season. It is almost a year to the day since he won that particular vote, and that was when we drew at home to West Brom and our title challenge of leaders Leicester took a severe dent. It was in the next game in "The Battle of Stamford Bridge" that Mousa sorely blotted his copybook and received that severe retrospective punishment following a post-match video review. As Norman Giller has written this week, Mousa will have a key part to play in our FA Cup semi-final, also against Chelsea on Saturday tea-time.
Dembele has never scored enough goals for Spurs, with this being his first goal since January last year. In truth, Mousa has never scored many goals in a season in his time in England. It's a full 9 years since he reached double figures, and that was when he played for AZ Alkmaar, from whom he was signed by Fulham. It was refreshing to see him score Saturday's early goal, and also to hit the rasping shot from which Bournemouth goalkeeper Artur Boruc did so well to save.
Last season, Spurs managed 95 goals in all competitions in a total of 53 games. This season we have played 46 games so far and have already scored 97 goals. Wouldn't it be fantastic to reach 100 on Saturday?
With 6 league games remaining, we are just one point away from equalling our record points total for a Premier League season (72). We've won all four games played so far in April (here's to three more!), seven consecutive league games, eight consecutive games in all, and also now 12 consecutive home league games. More information on these records are on the Spurs Official Site. Also on the official site you can find all the information about Harry Kane's scoring record, after he became only the fourth player in Premier League history to score 20 goals in three consecutive seasons.
May the records keep falling, and the wins keep coming, beginning with Chelsea on Saturday!
