Maybe a transfer crescendo coming?
With less than 36 hours remaining now before the transfer window slams shut, it seems that despite all the early and big money business that has been done this summer and in the early weeks of the season, there could yet be enough excitement to have Sky Sports News' Jim White genuinely frothing at the mouth!
From a Spurs perspective, we know that Kevin Wimmer has gone to Stoke for a fee that could amount to a cool £18 million. This for a player who has made just 13 Premier League starts in his two seasons with Tottenham. The fee is an indication of the level of the market at this time. Good luck to Kevin, who did a great job covering for Jan Vertonghen in the 2015-16 season, but who did not hit those heights of form on the few occasions he had a chance last season. How is Son Heung-min going to manage without his best buddy?
Davinson Sanchez's move, worth up to a club record £42 million was confirmed after last week's review, and he was introduced and made a very brief substitute debut against Burnley on Sunday.
Promising youngsters Cameron Carter-Vickers and Josh Onomah have signed new contracts and gone out on loan to Championship clubs Sheffield United and Aston Villa respectively.
As I write, I hear that Serge Aurier's work permit issue has been resolved, but that has yet to be confirmed. Call it outrageous if you like but PSG are even allegedly saying that midfielders Angel Di Maria and Lucas Moura could be for sale - at the right price, of course. I don't truly think that Spurs will be in the market here.
We'll have to wait till that window slams shut (is it a sash or cash window?) for confirmation of any more Spurs arrivals. Chelsea are said to be interested in Ross Barkley, and Spurs might not be keen to pay for a player who is injured at this time. Apart from Aurier (confirmed 31/08/2017), Estudiantes' 19 year old Juan Foyth seems a good bet (Foyth confirmed 30/08/2017).
We'll all have to wait and see. I shall summarise our final transfer dealings in the August review, but not before Friday!
For the record, both Jan Vertonghen and Mousa Dembele shared your Spurs man of the match vote for the Burnley game. The full spursometer is here.
